A Legacy of Hope and Community
1990
Foundation of CARES of NY
The Corporation for AIDS Research, Education and Services was founded by Tim Palmer and Scott Osadchey.
1995
Community AIDS Partnership Begins
CARES began the development of the Community AIDS Partnership of the Capital Region under the auspices of the Community Foundation for the Capital Region.
1995
First Executive Director of CARES
Linda Glassman was hired as the first Executive Director of CARES.
1995
Shelter Plus Care Rental Assistance Program
CARES began working with the Albany Housing Authority in developing and implementing a Shelter Plus Care rental assistance program.
1996
NYS AIDS Housing Network Formed
CARES formed the New York State AIDS Housing Network.
1996
First AIDS Walk
CARES coordinated the first AIDS Walk.
1998
Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance
CARES worked closely with agencies in Albany to submit a successfully funded application for Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance to HUD
1999
Continuum of Care Expands to Troy, NY
CARES expanded its work on the Continuum of Care, completing an application for the City of Troy
1999
CARES Partners With NYS On Homelessness
CARES wrote a portion of the New York State five-year plan to address the needs of homeless and special needs populations.
2000
CARES Expands Services
CARES amended its mission statement to provide services to a wider range of homeless/impoverished/ disenfranchised populations.
2001
CARES Expands to Schenectady County.
CARES expanded its work with local homeless coalitions to Schenectady County.
2003
Began Dove Street Property Mgmt.
Took on Dove Street property management responsibilities for the AIDS housing program previously owned by Capitol Hill Improvement Corporation.
2004
Convened Community AIDS Partnership of the Capital Region
Assumed direct responsibility for convening the Community AIDS Partnership of the Capital Region. Role previously held by the Community Foundation of the Capital Region.
2005
Implemented HMIS
CARES implemented a Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) to identify and track homeless individuals and families in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties.
2005
Expanded to Washington and Warren Counties and Expanded Saratoga CoC.
CARES began work with homeless service providers in Warren and Washington Counties and expanded the Saratoga Continuum of Care to include these northern communities. Cut out magazine Cut out magazine

Helped to Designate November as Homelessness Awareness Month
CARES worked with homeless service providers in Albany County to designate November as Homelessness Awareness Month to bring attention and awareness to the issue of homelessness.
2006
Expanded HMIS Database
The HMIS database was expanded to include Columbia, Greene, Jefferson, Hamilton, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington counties.

CARES was selected to serve as the lead agency for the Ryan White HIV Care Network of Northeastern New York under the direction of the New York State AIDS Institute.

In response to a global pandemic, ESG Funding for CoC response to the COVID-19 virus was awarded. CARES received 1.6 million for a 3-year contract.
